Gratitude-Day 28

Avinaashi tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idam tatam;

Vinaasham avyayasyaasya na kashchit kartum arhati.

Know That to be indestructible, by whom all this is pervaded. None can cause the destruction of That, the Imperishable.

COMMENTARY: The Self pervades all objects like ether. Even if the pot is broken, the ether that is within and without it cannot be destroyed. Similarly, if the bodies and all other objects perish, the eternal Self that pervades them cannot be destroyed; It is the living Truth. 2.17 The Bhagavad Gita by Swami Sivananda

A student of mine recently shared a quote when we were talking about Satya/Truthfulness in class. Since then it has been a favorite one of mine. It is a quote from the Buddha- and it goes-

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth”

I believe it describes the above verse to a T. Nothing can destroy the truth. One might try to hide it, one might forget about it in the chaos of mindless thoughts- but truth is truth! It never stays hidden for too long. The light of awareness will always shine through. We often hear the story of the ‘pot space’ which thinks it exists because of the pot. When in reality the pot exists in space. The pot exists because of space. The space always was, always is and always will be. Similarly, we limit the awareness to this body, mind and heart entity. We think the awareness exists because of the body, mind and heart. In reality, without awareness there is no body, no mind, no heart. These entities would be pure elements that have no existence on their own. The awareness gives existence to these outer entities. Let us learn to identify with the truth of who we are, let us learn to identify with awareness itself. Gratitude🙏

  1. As someone who is just getting exposed to this concept…. it feels like it will take a lifetime to shed the conditioned mind and recognize awareness… the truth of who we are.
